The Grievance Corner

December 23rd, 2006

by Lois Samsel-Cronk, Grievance Committee Chairperson

It has been a rather busy month working to insure that members receive what is deserving of them. We won the two grievances at Mechanics-town and Twin Towers regarding the “Proxy Tags” that were not available to ALL teachers. Without the tags teachers were unable to access the door by the parking lot. All teachers now have the tags.

As a result of Secondary Parent Teacher Conferences High School teachers were being denied their full lunch period. This went to a Stage 1b grievance and we were able to change the schedule to reflect a full lunch period.

There was also a member who had not been given credit for their Masters for a number of years. After working with personnel, the member will be given retroactive pay and the adjustment has been made on their MOE.

The half-day of work before Thanksgiving brought on a 1b grievance at Twin Towers. At the last minute the schedule for the day was changed.

The bus grievance at Maple Hill is still pending. There have been two meetings with central office and MTA representation. A transportation service has conducted an audit on the situation. At this time we are waiting on the verdict from the audit before proceeding with the grievance.
